You, as a parent, know your child better than anyone else. The Center for Pediatric
Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral
Hospital for Children practices family-centered
care. You are an integral part of the team. We encourage you and other family
members to be involved as much as possible in your child's care. We offer a
spectrum of services such as:
- A comprehensive evaluation by a
Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist which includes a health history, physical
examination, and blood tests and x-rays depending on the diagnosis.
- The
care continues with treatment recommendations
and long-term management if indicated.
- Our patients receive the most current
therapies available and we have access
to pediatric surgeons and other specialists
who are expert in problems suffered
by children with blood disorders
such as bone and joint problems
associated with hemophilia and sickle
cell anemia.
- Our multi-dsiciplinary team also
includes highly skilled pediatric nurses, social workers, child
psychiatrists, and childlife
specialists with
unique training in the care of children with blood disorders.
- Communication
with the referring physician who is a very important
member of the treatment team.

Treatments
We have multi-disciplinary teams that specialize in the treatment of children
with sickle cell anemia, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, and stroke.
Our pediatric orthopedic surgeons, pain team, neurologists, infectious disease
specialists, and radiologists are all involved in the care of children with
blood disorders. We are affiliated with regional, national, and international
societies that focus on hematological problems in children including sickle
cell anemia, hemophilia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia.
Clinical
Trials and Research
National and International clinical trials are available or soon to be
activated for children for neutropenia, hemophilia, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia
Purpura (ITP), and sickle cell anemia.
