About This Program
Our ServicesU.S. News and World Report ranks Mass General as second in the nation for treating endocrine diseases. Endocrine surgeons at the Massachusetts General Hospital have gained extensive surgical experience in the diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. The Center is one of the largest thyroid cancer treatment centers in the United States. Our surgeons performed the first operation for Hyperparathyroidism in 1926. Our center has taken a leadership role in developing innovative techniques for the management of patients with various endocrine diseases.
AdrenalThe number of adrenal operations performed each year is greater than any other center in New England. In all aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of adrenal disorders, our surgeons work closely with the other specialists that have expertise in this field, most notably the endocrinologists. This close collaborative work is extremely important for patients with endocrine disease in order to ensure proper diagnosis and therapy. Read More
ParathyroidFor patients with parathyroid conditions, the minimally invasive, radio-guided parathyroidectomy can now be performed, using a highly sensitive probe that precisely localizes the site of a parathyroid adenoma at the time of operation, such that minimal dissection is needed. We also monitor parathyroid hormone levels intraoperatively, maximizing the chances of cure following the surgery. Read More
ThyroidThyroid surgery is performed through the smallest possible incision and most patients report extremely high satisfaction with the entire experience, including having minimal discomfort and returning to work and other activities within one week. Read More
Adrenal Tumors / Pheochromocytoma
Tumors of the adrenal glands can cause many problems by excess secretion of certain adrenal-produced hormones, most often resulting in high blood pressure, which can be extreme.
Parathyroid Tumor
A parathyroid tumor is a growth inside a parathyroid gland. Parathyroid tumors may cause increased levels of parathyroid hormones secreted by the parathyroid glands, leading to hyperparathyroidism.
Thyroid Tumors
Thyroid tumors are either benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous) growths.
