Commitment to Education
The Center for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease is committed to fostering the interaction between Center investigators, and training the young researchers in the study of the inflammatory bowel disease. These goals are accomplished with the following five Center activities:
Longitudinal Seminar Series. The CSIBD supports a weekly seminar series by investigators within the Boston area research community as well as from other national institutions. This series addresses itself to areas of scientific progress relevant to IBD as well as IBD-focused research.
Molecular Biology Course. Every year CSIBD runs a month-long course in most recent Molecular Biology techniques aimed at advancing IBD related research.
Monthly Work-in-Progress. Over the past twelve years, CSIBD investigators have held a monthly work-in-progress (alternating in location between MGH and BIDMC) in which young investigators or post-doctoral fellows discuss ongoing IBD related research progress.
Annual Scientific Meeting of the CSIBD. In conjunction with the annual review of the CSIBD by the Scientific Advisory Committee, the Executive and Administrative Committees organize a symposium of presentations of research accomplished by investigators of the Center. These presentations emphasize research supported through the Pilot/Feasibility Program and offer another opportunity for interactions among CSIBD investigators.
Annual Workshop. A two-day workshop each year focused on an area of science important to understanding IBD. The theme each year is decided by the Executive Committee on the basis of the critical importance of progress in that area for the advancement of CSIBD investigators. These workshops have brought together outstanding workers from around the country and serve both to highlight progress in important areas for the members of the Center but also serve as a stimulus to the speakers to consider the implications of the work in these fields for the understanding of IBD.
