The Department of Dermatology offers comprehensive dermatologic diagnostic and therapeutic services including skin cancer and aesthetic dermatology. Services include general dermatology consultation and continuing care for disorders of the skin, hair and nails, phototherapy with PUVA, UVB, TL-01, and hand and foot units for psoriasis, cutaneous lymphoma and other disorders, and cutaneous surgery including the excision of benign and malignant lesions, Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancers, and cutaneous reconstruction following cancer surgery. An active inpatient consultation service sees patients on both East and West campuses as well as in the emergency unit and walk-in clinics. Cosmetic and laser procedures are offered through the department's Cosmetic Laser and Surgery Center at 25 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill and at the hospital. These services include laser treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions, laser skin resurfacing, scar revision, laser hair removal, liposuction, chemical peels, hair transplantation, botox injection and sclerotherapy. The Cutaneous Oncology and Melanoma Clinic is available for consultation and clinical care and is managed as part of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Oncology Center. The Division of Dermatology treats all diseases of the skin in adult patients, including psoriasis, benign and malignant skin tumors, immune or allergic mediated processes, and diseases of other organ systems with cutaneous manifestations. Cutaneous oncology, including melanoma and cutaneous lymphomas, is an area of special expertise. Additionally, dermatology care is offered through multidisciplinary clinics, in association with the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Close ties with the Dermatopathology and Hematopathology divisions allow for analysis of skin biopsies through light microscopy, monoclonal antibody immuno-staining, and antigen receptor gene rearrangement studies for analysis of clonality. Flow cytometric analysis of peripheral blood using monoclonal antibodies is also available. Services such as Mohs micrographic surgery for non-melanoma skin cancer, as well as phototherapy for a variety of dermatoses are also offered, as well as specialty services in aesthetics and cosmetic dermatology. The Division of Dermatology is also the site of the Harvard Skin Disease Research Center (HSDRC), one of only six centers in the nation funded by the National Institutes of Health. The goals of the HSDRC are to foster collaborations and interactions between investigative dermatologists and other biomedical scientists, and to provide education, enlightenment, training, and scientific innovation that will positively affect the achievement of the shared goal to understand and successfully treat skin disease. The Dermatology Department at Lahey offers comprehensive general adult and pediatric dermatology consultation and continuing care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients as well as cutaneous surgery including excision of benign and malignant lesions, Mohs' micrographic surgery for selected skin cancers, and reconstruction following cancer surgery. Cosmetic and laser procedures are also offered. Complete phototherapy including UVB, PUVA, and hand-foot PUVA is available. Lahey Clinic Dermatology Department is the Northeast Regional Center for the care of Hansen's Disease patients. Several programs exist in conjunction with other departments including the Vasculitis Study Group, Melanoma Group, Travel and Tropical Medicine Department, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department. The Dermatology Service diagnoses and treats all diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. Services include a full range of specialties such as treatment of melanoma,
light and pigment disorders, phototherapy, photochemotherapy, contact dermatitis, Mohs surgery, hair and nails, pediatric dermatology, laser surgery, and cosmetic services. An inpatient consultation service is devoted to serving all hospitalized patients at the MGH, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Shriner's Burns Institute.
