HIV Metabolism

There are a number of important metabolic disturbances associated with HIV-disease. Both the AIDS wasting syndrome and the HIV-lipodystrophy syndrome are primary concerns in the care of HIV-positive individuals.

Our HIV-research group in the Neuroendocrine Unit of Massachusetts General Hospital is pursuing an exciting research program which offers many options for HIV-positive individuals concerned about their metabolism. We have protocols aimed at treating both the AIDS wasting syndrome and the HIV-lipodystrophy syndrome, as well as short-term studies investigating the mechanism of HIV-lipodystrophy.

We are actively recruiting participants for the research studies described on this site and hope that you will consider participating. We encourage you to leave your name, address, and telephone number if you would like to receive further information from us.
