MAO is committed to developing and promoting URM physicians as leaders, researchers, teachers, clinicians and administrators. MAO staff works closely with hospital and physician organization leaders to recruit, retain and develop faculty at all stages of their careers at MGH. These collaborative efforts have resulted in increased promotions and retention of URM trainees into faculty positions

  • Minority Faculty Development Award Program (MFDAP) – The MFDAP is designed for MGH-appointed faculty with less than five years post-training experience and fellows in their transition to junior faculty positions. These two awards include a grant and a loan forgiveness component and are based on the academic career of the applicant, either as a physician-scientist or clinician-teacher.

  • Career development conference and faculty seminars – MAO co-sponsors a yearly faculty development conference with the HMS Office for Diversity and Community Partnership and affiliated hospitals. MAO also sponsors seminars on topics including: opportunities in leadership and health policy, professional development and negotiating employment contracts.

  • Chester Pierce Research Society (CPRS) – MAO sponsors a bi-monthly luncheon speaker series named in honor of MGH Professor emeritus in Psychiatry, Chester Pierce. CPRS is designed for minority researchers to present their clinical, basic science and health services/policy research to the MGH community.
