The Discharge Service volunteers are
a group of approximately 65 individuals who contribute between 3
to 20 hours each week transporting and assisting patients who are
both coming to and leaving MGH for care.
Over
the years, this program has grown by leaps and bounds. This past fiscal year, the Discharge Service volunteers
reached an all-time high of 8,620 discharges.
In addition to working
with our patients, veteran volunteers train new Discharge and Emergency
Department volunteers on proper use of the wheelchairs and the locations
of the various buildings that make up the MGH Main Campus.

An asterik denotes a key trainer.  Key trainers are volunteers who train new volunteers as they enter their placements.
The Discharge Service
volunteers contribute an average of 600 hours of service each
month to support patients and staff. We are amazed every day
at the magnitude of the work that they accomplish.

Bill Meyer, one of Discharge Services key trainers, explains
the Discharge log to Summer 2000 student volunteer Keil Hur.
Bill has completed over 400 hours of service in Discharge Services.
