Center Governance
R. Rox Anderson, MD became the Director of the Wellman Center in 2004 following a national search to replace Founding Director, John Parrish, MD. Dr. Anderson reports, as do all thematic center directors, to the MGH Executive Committee on Research, which is comprised of senior MGH administrators and department chairs.
Continuing a long tradition at Wellman, Dr. Anderson has retained a participatory administrative structure, which provides for active faculty involvement in decision-making. A Faculty Executive Committee comprised of appointed senior faculty and elected junior faculty meets weekly with the Director to address Center administration and policies, scientific priorities and planning, and inter-organizational relationships. Several standing faculty committees have been established to provide input to the FEC in specific policy and management areas, and ad-hoc committees are formed as needed. The full faculty meets monthly to consider a mix of scientific and administrative topics.
