The Wellman Center's mission to impact upon clinical medicine is manifest in the orientation of its basic science research and technology development programs. This primary focus fosters a culture and environment that promotes practical research and technology such as:

•  paradigm-shifting advances in optical coherence tomography technology that make feasible its use in the clinic

•  the design of immuno-and polymeric conjugates to deliver potent photosensitizing dyes for photodynamic therapy

•  advanced microscopy imaging that provides real time, in-vivo visualization of cellular level activity

•  photochemical tissue bonding to enhance and substitute for current micro-surgical repair techniques
